UTXO
Accounting model where a wallet holds unspent transaction outputs rather than a balance.
On Bitcoin, Litecoin or Bitcoin Cash a wallet does not hold a balance but a set of unspent outputs. A transaction consumes some of those and creates new ones, including a change output.
Two visible consequences. Fees come out of the difference between inputs and outputs, which is why sending the full balance leaves slightly less. And a transaction’s size, hence its cost, depends on how many inputs it consumes: a wallet funded by many small payments is more expensive to empty.
